Lapwai School District Earns Top Honor for Equity Programs

Lapwai Superintendent David Aiken receives the 2019 Magna Award in Philadelphia on April 1

Lapwai School District received the 2019 Magna Award by the American School Board Journal.

The Magna Awards recognize school districts and their leaders for delivering education equity with programs that break down barriers for under-served students. A panel of school board members, administrators and educators selected the winners from over 200 submissions.

Lapwai School District was nominated for the 5,000-and-under enrollment category for collaborative work in enhancing student achievement with the Nez Perce tribe.

“It takes commitment to start an equity program and fortitude to sustain it,” said Thomas J. Gentzel, National School Boards Association Executive Director & CEO.

Lapwai School District Superintendent David Aiken received the honor at NSBA’s annual conference in Philadelphia on April 1. “We are excited that a small, rural district in Idaho can be recognized for such an award,” said Aiken. “It is truly a partnership in the Lapwai community.”
